For the logo project I decided to create a logo for my blog. The theme of my blog is my yoga journey. The logo ties into this theme because I decided to create an image of someone in a yoga position against the backdrop of a lotus flower, which can symbolize enlightenment and rebirth. I was inspired by the design principle of continuation when I created the petals of the lotus flower. I overlapped the petals in various ways to try and create a sense of movement. The law of continuation is part of Gestalt Theory, which I researched from Unit 1. I also decided to use different shades of the color blue to create a sense of harmony and unity in my design. People tend to associate the color blue with calmness, which is why I chose that specific color.
To create my design, I first used the pen tool to trace an outline of the figure practicing yoga. This allowed me to work with a vector image, which has scalability. I then created the petals of the lotus flower using the ellipsis tool. I then resized the shape to make it more narrow and copy and pasted the petal into a semicircle. I made each petal a different shade of blue, starting with darker shades and moving to lighter shades. I then arranged each petal to make them overlap. I also added a stroke around the petals. I decided to keep the image of the person practicing yoga black because it stood out more against the different shades of blue.
I experienced the most challenges using the pen tool to trace the outline of an image. It took a lot of practice to get the curves right on the shape. My advice to anyone experiencing the same problem would be to just keep practicing because it gets easier as you go along.

Kathryn! This is a really great design! I really enjoyed how you decided to use multiple shades of blue. I think this really helps keep a commonon pattern and or theme throughout your logo that really shows the simplicity of yoga and the calmness of it. I really like how you also created an ombre effect from petal to petal to create a calming pattern instead of just adding random shades of blue everywhere.I also really enjoyed how you decided to create an actual outline of a person sitting in the middle. This really shows the unity within the piece and the unity within the whole theme of your blog. One thing I might suggest changing would be the stroke details on the petals. Maybe have all the petals have a stroke effect so that they all stand out from the figure. But other than that this piece is really nice and you can tell you really took your time and thought it through.

When I saw your logo, I’m not gonna lie, I was blown away. My first thought was, this is really good. Your logo is very clear, I’m sure anyone who is first introduced to your Yoga Journey will be able to recognize your logo even without a name. But maybe an initial view could benefit from the name being somewhere near your logo. I love the colors and the aesthetic is pleasing to the eye. Your logo is balanced and there are subtle outlines of each petal that differentiate each one. One thing you could do is possibly use negative space to differentiate the black figure in the middle with the pedals or even between pedals. You could make the figure in the middle a brighter color to differentiate with the left side of the logo. I’m not sure what else I could possibly comment on this. I think it’s great and I personally love it.
